Hard Drive Marketing Scam

I received my 1TB external hard drive. The size of the drive is 1,000,000,000,000 bytes or 931GB. When I bought the drive, I thought 1TB=1000GB or 1TB=1024GB or 1TB=2x500GB. Should I buy two 500GB drives or one 1TB drive given the same price?
